Sažetak
In this study I analysed conversations appearing in Hong Taeyong's records of travel to China. Specifically, I focused on how conversations are represented in each of the records, as well as how participants of these conversations are represented when their status, ethnicity and native language is considered. Likewise, I examined how these different representations of both conversations and interlocutors inform the records themselves, in terms of authorial intent behind them, the nature of the texts and possible readership. Based on these, I drew conclusions about how these interlocutors of different backgrounds might have positioned themselves towards each other, especially in the changed circumstances of the eighteen-century East Asia, as well as about what communication processes might have been involved in their interactions.
