Sažetak
At the beginning of the 21st century, cosmopolitanism, at least in the Western part of the world, is considered a well-known concept. Indeed, it has become so familiar, that we even do not question it, since we deem its meaning to be permanent, self-evident and non-problematic. And all of this is quite far from the truth. This ''familial'' status of cosmopolitanism in public life is more a result of its long historical presence than a consequence of its intrinsic properties. From its early understanding as a notion of ''openness to the world'', cosmopolitanism is now starting to be considered as a legal and political framework, as an ethical ideal and a vision of justice, as well as an identity choice of individuals. This paper will try to gather and compare all these contemporary modes of cosmopolitanism in order to show that despite the differences, there is still a cosmopolitan “common thread” that can provide a blueprint for a better world.
