Sažetak
In the course of 2013 a new campaign of archaeological excavations and conservation works was undertaken at the hill-fort next to the sanctuary of Our Lady of the Hills in Lobor. The goal was to investigate the space along the exterior north-east part of the Baroque enclosure wall in order to initiate in that part drainage works and the rehabilitation of the foundation and wall. The site continued to be geodetically surveyed and the apse walls and sacristy of the existing church were surveyed once more. In other words, after last year’s archaeological campaign of excavations within the sanctuary complex along the exterior edge of the sanctuary and sacristy, the plaster and facade of the church complex were removed up to a height of 120 cm. A new structure appeared in the process, namely, the preserved original Romanesque sanctuary above which the existing Gothic one was built. In the lower Romanesque part of the sanctuary large chiselled stones were set at the corners as opposed to Gothic profiles that were habitually built into Gothic churches. Analyses of the east and north walls of the sacristy showed that the sacristy wall was organically connected to the Romanesque wall. An opening walled in by baroque bricks was found in the east wall. It was actually a window whose sides were made of antique spolia, actually, an antique tombstone (2nd/3rd centuries) with a hyppocampus in the upper past and a lion in the lower. The window was walled in during the reconstruction of the sacristy, most probably after the earthquake in the late 18th century. It is visible on the north sacristy wall that the Romanesque wall was not completed above the buttress/ lesene of the pre-Romanesque church. The Romanesque church had a sacristy (pastophorium) on the north side or else it was an added room for some other purpose. The archaeological dig along the exterior north- east part of the enclosure wall was 40 m long and about 2 m wide. Graves were found in the greater part of the probe. Two grave layers belonging to different burial periods were established. The first older grave layer can be connected to the graves dated from the time of use of the pre-Romanesque church (11th-12th centuries). Among other things S-ringlets and cast rings were found in the graves. The majority of the second phase graves had no finds. Small shards of medieval, antique and prehistoric items were found along the entire length of the dig. During the examination of various stones scattered at the site, a shard with a partially preserved head and upper body of a bearded man was found. Stylistically it can be linked to similar items connected with the pre-Romanesque church.
