Sažetak
Microplastic particles at size lower than 5 mm represent global environmental problem according to their presence and abundance in all environmental systems, even in food intended for human consumption. Microplastics are cause of concern due to their long lasting in the environment and impact on aquatic organisms through bioaccumulation and biomagnification. Due to this fact, further researches about impact of microplastic particles on organisms are necessary, as well as finding adequate solutions for its removal from the environment. A lot of different processes are investigated in mentioned purposes. One of the potential solutions is biological processes. Bioremediation is economical, efficient and environmentally friendly process which involves the use of microorganisms in the purpose of removing pollutants from the environment. In this study, key process parameters that influence on biodegradation of polystyrene (PS) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) by bacterium Bacillus cereus according to Taguchi design of experiments were investigated. It was investigated 7 factors at 2 levels (minimal and maximal value of each factor): pH-value, temperature, size of microplastic particles, concentration of microplastics, agitation speed, optical density of bacterial suspension, and addition of glucose. By this statistical design of experiments, the optimization of the conditions for biodegradation process of PS and PVC by B. cereus was performed using the number of living cells of bacterium as response parameter. The influence of each mentioned factor was evaluated by Taguchi method and the most statistically significant factors were determinate.
