Sažetak
The paper explores the case studies of “cultural translation” in the frame of cultural politics in Austro-Hungarian Empire. The role of Viennese Modernism in the receptions of ideas, ties, forms of cultural exchanges at the beginning of the 20th century on the Croatian cultural on the formation of urban culture and intellectual climate has features atypical of the usual relationship between centre and periphery. Its specific forms of “complexity and contradiction” are discussed within a historical, cultural and aesthetic context and analysed as the foundation of representational models of affirming ideas and concepts of modernism and national identity. With focus on manifestations of continuity of modernity, the aim is to examine how it is represented from the conceptualisation of ideas, such as critical and utopian urban and architectural ideologies, programs and manifestoes, activities of personalities and groups as a specific model of collaborative practice. This would shed light on networks of artists, groups and institutional frameworks involved in a transmission of influence, such as educational models (Wagner schule, Kunstgewerbeschule in Vienna), specific institutional paradigms (Wiener Werkstätte, Austrian Werkbund), as well as in alternative forms of medialisation ; exhibitions and art journals. The argument presented here entails the dialogue between models of exchange as a continuity of modernist language.
