Sažetak
The contribution of many women artists to the processes of articulating modern visual culture in Austro-Hungarian monarchy and Vienna at the turn of the century still remains unknown. To date historical surveys of the period have not explored the full impact of these distinguished, multi- faceted artistic personalities, tending to privilege the male authors, collaborative practices or center to the periphery. The paper traces the connection between reforms of the school system, cultural spaces of modernity in Vienna and new opportunities for women artists in the field of conceptualization of new design aesthetic. Krasnik’s oeuvre is analyzed as a case study of redefining the formulas given to “decorative” and subordinated aesthetic values of “applied art” paradigmatic for affirmation and professionalization women artist in the Central European and Viennese artistic and cultural context at the turn of the century.
