Sažetak
Nueva Canción is the term denoting a range of protest songs which emerged throughout the region of Latin America in the 1960s as a reaction to the political, social and philosophical aspects of society. Accordingly, the basic motives of the songs are encouragement for people to fight imperialism (Madre déjame luchar) and provide support to the leftist politicians and revolutionaries, such as Che Guevara and Allende (Comandante Amigo ; Venceremos) or a warning against social injustice. Therefore, Victor Jara believed that Nueva Canción songs should not be defined as protest songs, but as revolutionary songs.
