Sažetak
The article deals with the "decline and fall" of the Roman Empire, as interpreted by Edward Gibbon, who saw the weakening of military valor as one of the primary causes of the phenomenon. The article reviews changes that occurred in military organization of the Empire from the 3rd to the 5th century and focuses on imperial monuments and their iconography representing imperial war campaigns and images of war in general.
