Sažetak
This paper will explore oral literature in the assigned reading in grades 1-4 of primary school. The starting point for the study of how oral literature is spread in this context is the assigned reading list proposed by the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports of the Republic of Croatiain a document called The National Primary School Programme. The aim of the paper is to single out precisely the works of national literature that can be found on the assigned reading list which show interference with oral literature. The interference could be found in the categories of structure, theme and motive, characters, simplicity, language game, the integration of homeland motives, oral literary forms, and so on. The results of the analysis suggest that oral literature makes up a significant part of the assigned reading list in grades 1-4 of primary school. The number is slightly higher in grades 3 and 4 as in the lower two grades picture books pevail. In the lower two grades it is other forms that are more saturated with oral literature – poems and other prose works. The interference was the highest in the categories of integration of homeland motives and patriotism, themes and motives and oral literary forms.
