Sažetak
Croatian is a South Slavic language with an estimated 5.5 million L1 speakers. It is the official language of the Republic of Croatia and one of the official languages of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Croatian exhibits a substantial degree of dialectal diversity, and not all varieties of the language are completely mutually intelligible. Croatianvarieties have been spoken for hundreds of years in minority communities in Italy (see Škevin Rajko & Šimičić in LME 2020), Slovenia, Austria, Czechia, Slovakia, Hungary (see Vuković in LME 2020), Romania, Serbia (see Hodges in LME 2020 and Vuković in LME 2020), Kosovo, and Montenegro, which already existed before thelanguage was standardized in Croatia in the 19th century. It is also spoken by more recent immigrants in Western Europe, the Americas, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa.
