Sažetak
In this critical biography of IWAKURA Masaji (1903.3.4‐2000.5.6), a Japanese writer and thinker, his unique thoughts on religions and the process of their formation are elucidated through his writings, information obtained from interviews with people who were close to him, and comparisons of his concepts and those of others such as Japanese Marxist thinkers MIKI Kiyoshi and HATTORI Shiso's views, a German pastor and theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer's 'Nicht-religiösen Interpretation biblischer Begriffe (non-religious interpretation of biblical concepts), ' and so forth. In addition, the contemporary significance of his thoughts (especially ones related to some sort of utopianism) is demonstrated from the point of view of intellectual history and literary history.

小著は作家岩倉政治の評伝であると同時に、その独自の
思想である「脱宗教」を浮き彫りにし、思想史・文学
史・社会史的観点から、その現代的意義を明らかにした
ものである。
岩倉は鈴木大拙と戸坂潤とに師事し、仏教と唯物論の間
で葛藤したが、最終的に両者から多くを学び、新たな思
想を展開した。その展開の過程と彼が到達した境地から
私たちは、より主体的に自由に生きていく方法を学ぶこ
とができる。
岩倉はこうした思想を、小説の形で表すことに力を注い
だ。そうして生まれたのが『空気がなくなる日』であ
る。この中に我々は、彼独自のユートピア思想を見るこ
とができる。ここで云うユートピアとは、通念と化した
「空間的に閉ざされた共同体」ではない。より「大きな
救済」を求める人たちの連帯が永遠に形成され続けてい
くこと、その「時間的なダイナミズム」こそが、彼の構
想するユートピアなのである。楽観的な未来が描きにく
い今日だからこそ、傾聴すべきものがそこにある。
