Sažetak
The twentieth century has faced us, once again, with expulsion as a “successful” political instrument: one of the more recent cases happened in Europe, in former Yugoslavia. But although the history of civilization can be considered as a history of exile, our attitudes and reactions towards expulsion in different periods of time also helps to write that part of history. So it is interesting to see how psychoanalysis, as a twentieth century tool of the human soul, has related to expulsion ; what it can disclose to us about it ; and what it can tell us about our eventually newly forming identities. Unfortunately, psychoanalysis can also reveal hidden meanings, like concealed dark sides of human nature. It can be beneficial theoretically and therapeutically, but it does not seem to ensure human rights. And our question is no longer, ‘What can history teach us?’ but ‘Why don’t we want to learn from it?’
