Sažetak
The paper relates to deprivation of citizenship as one of possible ways of losing citizenship in Croatia and in federal Yugoslavia, of which Croatia was one of federal units, in the aftermath of the Second World War. The regulations and to some extent practice of deprivations are analysed. The author concludes that in the legal system of federal Yugoslavia, that was relevant for Croatia as well, existed wide possibilities of deprivations, in comparison to situation before 1941 in the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes/Yugoslavia. The author argues that such new regulation of deprivations implies different understanding of the concept of citizenship understood as a kind of special bond between an individual and a state. In his opinion, in the communist Yugoslavia and Croatia citizenship was not anymore permanent legal bond which termination is at least partly dependent on the will of an individual. Instead, he argues that citizenship was a bond that the authorities could terminate in cases of violation of an interest of the community. In line with this, the author argues that the new regulations about deprivation of citizenship imply shift from liberal towards communitarian understanding of citizenship.
