Sažetak
In the first half of the 20th century, newspapers were the most influential social media, they shaped and directed public opinion. Journalism was usually a male profession, women journalists, however, were rare, but often very prominent public figures, engaged in political, cultural and feminist trends of that period. One of them, for example, was Marija Juric Zagorka, a woman whose career as a journalist started after her scandalous escape from abusive husband. She worked for the leading political newspapers of the time and she took an active role in political turbulences at the beginning the 20th Century. Later on, she launched two high-profile women´s magazines and she wrote very popular historical romance books. Among women journalists of the time one can also find Zofka Kveder, outstanding female writer of Slovenian and Croatian Modern and a great supporter of the Yugoslav union or Alojzija Stebi, a prominent figure of the Yugoslav feminist movement. The importance of women´s journalism was recognized by the women's movement of the time, and the Yugoslav National Women's Council founded a Press committee that conducted analyzes and surveys among journalists and wrote reports for ICW congresses. The paper will aim to provide a quantitative and qualitative analysis of women´s journalism in interwar Yugoslavia. Prozopographic analysis will seek the answers regarding their social status, education, employment, income and most frequent topics they covered. In addition to that, the analyzes of the autobiographies, interviews and survey answers of the most famous women journalists will examine their self-perception, standing within a journalist community and the relation between women journalists who worked for women's magazines and journalists employed by cultural and political newspapers
