Sažetak
The Boyash, as it is known, are a group of Roma whose mother tongue are Daco-Romanian dialectal varieties. This ethnic group is known not only as the Boyash / Bayash, but also under other names, and is present throughout Southeast Europe. According to estimations, the Boyash represent approximately three quarters of the total Roma population in Croatia. There are three linguistic varieties of Boyash Romanian spoken in Croatia - Transylvanian, Baranja Muntenian and Ludari Muntenian. These varieties differ from each other foremost in the field of phonology but also in the field of morphosyntax, and they are somewhat archaic in comparison to related Romanian dialects and Standard Romanian, along with other differences. The Boyash dialects also show significant influence of the Croatian language, due to the occurring language contact. This paper intends to give an overview of the Boyash dialects spoken in Croatia, the sociolinguistic context, their main phonological and morphological characteristics and aspects of the influence of the Croatian language.
