Sažetak
The combination of increased global awareness of the protection of the cultural heritage buildings, and a rising need for living spaces in old city areas, resulted in the need for a standardized legislation and norms. The main goal is to maximize the success of conservation of the cultural heritage and to regulate vast conversion of the attic spaces in living spaces. This master thesis deals with an overall approach to a conservation project of the cultural heritage with an emphasis on the timber roof structures. First, an overview of historic timber roof structures in Europe, with an emphasis on Central Europe, is given. In the following section, the need for cultural conservation of structures is described and explained in relation to global and local institutions. The main part of the thesis involves assessment, survey, analysis and strengthening of the historic timber roof structures. Therefore, in the second part of the thesis, different assessment methods are described and compared, with an attempt to standardize the survey process. The impact of different approaches to the analysis of the timber roof structures is explained in more detail, taking into account different influences, and quantitatively compared on an example of the roof structure of TU Graz Alte Technik. Lastly, an approach to strengthening and an overview of different strengthening measures are presented. The second part of the thesis is dedicated to the implementation of derived approaches of assessment, analysis and strengthening on a real example of the roof structure on the south wing of TU Graz Alte Technik.
