Sažetak
Zagreb, a capital with around one million of inhabitants, is situated between river Sava and Zagrebačka Gora mountain. In areas that represent the survivals of old river watercourse together with its small backwater channels and deserted gravel pits, today stand artificial lakes personifying the remaining natural green oasis in the town itself. Preserved vegetation typical for rivers of these areas, its attraction and specific value as well as richness in flora and fauna are adding to the possibilities of recreation and residing in nature. Preservation of biotopes of woods, wood sides, hedgerows, pastures, rockery and marshy biotope and incorporation of indigenous vegetation in landscaping of public green areas is of crucial importance. Existing parts of biotopes near the water, such as open water areas, coastal vegetation, little islands, shrubbery and nearby woodlands demand careful attendance and manipulation with the system where the requirements for nature conservation and people´s needs for recreation are respected. In this paper, current state of different biotopes in system of two artificial lakes near river Sava will be presented as well as obtained inventory results of several valuable plant associations and measures of maintenance that are being carried out.
