Sažetak
In February 2013, Croaticum held the first Intensive specialized course of Croatian language for language professionals, primarily for the translators and interpreters. This is the first course in Croatia that offered a program of learning Croatian language as a foreign language created for the specific professional needs of students and the one that, at the level of the methodology and content, represents a step forward in an entirely new field of teaching Croatian as a foreign language. On the other hand, in the mist of recent large refugee movements, Croatia found itself in a yet unknown position of a transition, but also a receiving country for refugees. This presentation discusses teaching refugees as a vulnerable group of foreign language learners. From academic year 2018-2019 a lot has been done in this field. Croaticum presented a new program: Croatian for asylum seekers. Furthermore, the new elective course Croatian as L2 and Service Learning is held at the Department of Croatian Language and Literature. The students who signed up for this course conducted project teaching classes for 12 attendants, refugees and asylum seekers, who never learned Roman alphabet.
