Sažetak
It is estimated that the Boyash (Bayash) represent about three quarters of the total Roma population in Croatia. There are three linguistic varieties of Boyash Romanian spoken in Croatia - Transylvanian, Baranja Muntenian and Ludari Muntenian. These dialects differ from each other foremost in the field of phonology but also morphology, and they are, along with other differences, somewhat archaic in comparison to standard Romanian and related dialects from Romania. This chapter discusses the current state of Boyash Romanian in Croatia, taking into consideration the features of the community, specific linguistic characteristics of the three dialects, publications in Boyash Romanian (and the related question of orthography), and the official educational policy towards this group.
