Sažetak
Preferences in various television genres in the context of streamed content and production has been used to point to distinctions along the lines of cultural capital. However, there has not been extensive research on the relation of taste in TV genres with value orientations. Purpose of this presentation will be to explore this relation using data from the survey of representative sample of high school student in larger coastal cities in Croatia (N=2700). Theoretical framework in the research included Pierre Bourdieu's cultural capital theory, as well as theory of univores/omnivores from Peterson. Value orientation was discussed using Inglehart’s framework in order to explain distinctions in taste while hierarchal regression analysis was used to extrapolate relevant predictors of this difference. Results revealed that taste in TV content that falls into the categories of foreign fiction draws more cosmopolitan audience, while taste in TV content that includes production in domestic language along the lines of soap operas and reality shows, draws audience with more conservative and localized identity. Implications of the results will be discussed in the context of contemporary global spacial and ideological configurations as well as in the broader context of cultural capital theories.
