Sažetak
Combining my personal experience of writing fiction and scholarly works in Croatian and English along with the unique enterprise of self-translation (I wrote an English version of my novel originally written in Croatian (Kako svezati cipele, Zagreb: Algoritam, 2011.) that appeared in USA and Ireland entitled How To Tie Your Shoes (Dalkey Archive Press: Houston and Dublin, 2017.) I talked about the framework, advantages and disadvantages of an authors attempt to be at home in the world while being altogether elsewhere. I also addressed a few examples of diasporic literary performances by writers such as David Albahari, Danilo Kiš, Alexandar Hemon, Dubravka Ugrešić... (applying the term 'diaspora' with extreme caution and only in its provisional and connotative meaning.
