Sažetak
Cascade multi-step reactions have gained a lot of attention in the last dec-ade due to their numerous advantages against traditional organic synthesis methods. Indeed, they are excellent from the viewpoint of sustainability. Nevertheless, one has to bear in mind that as the number of enzymes and compounds increases, the number of dependencies between different variables also increases. For such com-plex systems to work, and to become fully applicable on larger scale, it is important to understand them from within, i.e. from the viewpoint of reaction engineering. The path towards development of these complex processes can be challenging, with many open questions, but with the aid of modelling all the numerous interdepend-encies can be described and understood. Using models, reactions can be optimized faster and at low cost. This chapter presents the methodology for the multi-step pro- cess development via kinetic modelling, with challenges and problems addressed, and potential solutions offered.
