Sažetak
In earthquake design of r. c. frame with an unreinforced masonry wall, the opening size and position have a negative effect on its in- plane resistance. Past studies have shown that confining elements play a crucial role in resisting the behaviour of the structural system under in-plane and out of plane seismic action. Eurocode suggests providing confining elements on both sides of openings ; however, the code does not discuss the recommendation for the design of confining elements. Moreover, opening size and position have a strong influence on the shear resistance in masonry infilled frame structures. The shear resistance contribution of masonry infilled frame cannot be neglected in order to predict the structural system's behaviour accurately. An extensive parametric study using a computational micro model in ATENA 2D Eng. was carried out to determine the shear resistance distribution of masonry infill frame with openings and confining elements of each component such as r. c. frame, masonry infill wall, and confining element. The influence of opening type, size, and its position on the shear resistance of masonry infilled frame was investigated. In addition, a numerical investigation was carried out to study the behaviour of infill wall using equivalent diagonal strut and nonlinear shell element in case of masonry infill frame with confined openings. The macro model was validated against a series of experimental tests carried out in the laboratory at the Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek and micro model simulations of the same experiment. It was observed that the opening type, size, and position have a strong influence on the shear resistance distribution. Furthermore, confining elements enabled the structure to hold shear resistance up to higher drift ratio values in case of confined window openings
