Sažetak
The purpose of this paper is to introduce the concepts of the “Selfish Leader” as opposed to “Selfless Leader”, and to detect the virtues of outstanding leaders. The next goal is to describe the paradox of selflessness. There are two types: mutuality and a win-win mindset behind selflessness also called constructive selfishness, as well as hostility and a win-lose mindset behind destructive selfishness. The major question is: Are selfish or selfless leaders more productive? This paper examines the influence of comparative advantage and collaborative advantage on personal and organizational targets. The paper will also explore the influence of the shared vision on the motivation of both leaders and followers as well as the effect on morality and subsequently personal and organizational productiveness, emphasizing the component of happiness. While selfless leaders put their egos aside in order to focus on the joint vision reinforced with the mission and happiness of those who accomplish it, selfish leaders put the personal goal of promoting themselves first, no matter if they feel others less important or if they decrease the overall companies’ productiveness. If being focused on needs of others presents better option for both leaders and followers, why is then our first leader association dominantly connected with the authoritarian “Selfish leader”?
