Sažetak
The paper provides an insight into sustainable development as the basic principle to be followed in the planning activity the goal of which is to protect or enhance the things we, as society &#8211 ; ; ; ; value. The subject of that endeavour is frequently directed towards landscape. The legacy of landscape evaluation present among Croatian professional community is that landscape values are regarded as values that provoke a positive sensation or an emotional response. The conservation idea focuses less on values attached to desired goals and objectives. The paper concentrates on the character and role of those values as appropriate for the sustainability concept implementation. The central premise of the paper is that in order to reconcile efficient protection and justified development for the area in question, both planning goals should be: 1) decomposed into particular social interests, 2) verified through the prism of mutual impact. The factors supporting such concept are discussed: uncertainty and subjectivity in value judgements. The aim of the paper is to highlight the need for contribution resulting from divergent stakeholders and their interests in landscape in the uncertainty reduction and revelation of subjectivity in evaluation.
