Sažetak
The study introduces the concept of landscape protection as a significant issue in comprehensive land-use planning. The resouce of the fluvial landscape is emphasised by considering the section of the Sava river and adjoining area (1, 142.87 ha) in the city of Zagreb. The current landscape formation is the result of the river's hydrological history, the interaction of natural factors and human interference. Between 1945 and 1977, flood control activities had a negative environmental impact upon the area: the degradation of the meandering character of the river course and its tributaries, leading to an interruption of the water course, subsequent infill and the disappearance of surface water bodies. As the result of landscape analysis, seventeen distinctive landscape units were observed in the study area: river, stream, meandering scars, artificial lakes and ponds, deciduous woodland on the undulating plain, deciduous woodland in depressions, coniferous woodland on the undulating plain, emergent vegetation edging the waterbody, emergent vegetation in drained waterbeds, grassed enbarkments, grassland on the undulating plain, grassed depressions, bushwood on the undulating plain, bushwood in depressions, agricultural land, grass/bush on the undulating plain and developed area. Three categories were established, of which category I was the most valuable and in need of immediate protection thruogh legislation. The study recommends the revaluation of earlier developmental plans in the light of the need to protect this landscape
