Sažetak
Any professional engagement in today's modern world is unthinkable without the continuous monitoring the results of the latest research and discoveries. The profile of the modern highly educated medical professional requires the persistent openness and willingness to adopt new knowledge. Being an equal participant in medical or health care professional community, to contribute to the community and learn from it implies for each of its members the necessity of continuous improvement of his/her competence of English which is the language of today's modern science. This not only fulfils a basic condition for lifelong learning, but constant effort to improve the proficiency in English can only respond to the daily challenges of professional work. The results of the research of motivation for learning ESP among students of the final years of medical and health care studies in Rijeka will be presented in this paper. Students recognize the importance of ESP for professional development and for successful realization of their individual professional competences and they are motivated to improve it.
