Sažetak
The fact is that the digital age has brought several changes that affect young people, in particular, their behaviors and habits. With the development of technology and the advent of digital media, the number of hours spent in front of different screens increases day by day, while at the same time the quality of leisure time with books and reading decreases. Even though young people are reading less and less today, digitization has enabled new ways of reading on the Internet. Some scientific disciplines are therefore studying the phenomenon of reading and related problems, but also the effects of new media on the lives of young people. One of them is media education, an educational discipline What influence does digitization have on the growth of children and young people today about the growth of children a few decades ago? Is the written word really losing meaning in today's world? How can you encourage reading habits in young people? These topics are of great importance for the educator's profession, his educational work, but also for general work with young people who are aware of media influences and have to point them out to their critical and high-quality use. The theoretical part of the paper provides analysis and answers to these questions, while the research part of the paper examines whether young people read in their free time, how they feel about reading, how often they use certain media, and what topics they enjoy reading. The aim of the research part of the thesis is to investigate the frequency of use of certain media, attitudes, and preferences of young people towards reading and to investigate whether the reading habits of young people change under the influence of digital media. To conduct the research, and an online questionnaire was created to collect the necessary data. The results of the study showed statistically significant differences in reading in relation to gender, but also in reading books in a digital edition in relation to the place of residence. The results of the study showed statistically significant differences in reading in relation to gender, but also in reading books in a digital edition in relation to the place of residence.
