Sažetak
The objective of this paper is to provideinsights into the intact rock and rock mass propertiesof the rock formations under the city of Doha, State ofQatar. We also intend to scientifically clarify theseproperties by present ing and statistically characteriz-ing the ranges of the parameters, and by discussing thecorrelations between the parameters with respect totheir usage and research potential. The rock qualitydesignation corrected (RQDC) parameter is validatedand a new parameter, the fracture index corrected(FIC), is proposed. The significantly improv ed corre-lation between RQDCand FICis demonstrated andtheir derivation is explained. The paper demonstratesthe correlation between the rock mass estimationparameters obtained through rock face mapping anddiscusses the applicability of the Hoek–Brown crite-rion to the studied rock masses, which is found to berelevant. A discussion about how properly performedtriaxial tests can directly provide the rock constant mivalues for all geological members is presented. Otherestimation approaches for miare also validated andcompared with the existing knowledge base. Data forlaboratory and field intact rock and rock massparameters are combined using equations from variousauthors to obtain narrow ranges for rock mass strengthand rock mass elasticity modulus values. Finall y, within the framework of previous studies by otherauthors on the low-end transi tion range of rockstoward soils, it is shown that only the Rus formationmember is sufficiently soft and can be included in the range
