Sažetak
The paper deals with the interpretation of the value system and genre determinants of Jules Verne’s novel Around the World in 80 Days (1873). It defines values according to Janek Musek, which are divided into two categories: Dionysian (secular) values and Apollonian (spiritual) values. The analysis of Verne's novel indicates the presence of all categories of values from Musek’s model. The paper defines the area covered by children’s literature, and the analysis of the novel proves that the novel structurally, thematically, verbally, and in terms of character structure belongs to children’s literature. Part of the paper deals with the genre specification of the novel and explores the elements that make it an adventure and science fiction novel. The adventure on which the protagonist embarks makes this literary work a clear example of an adventure novel, while the dominance of science such as geography and technical sciences make this novel one of the first examples of a science fiction novel.
