Sažetak
In the process of globalisation and integration activities small and medium-sized Croatian businesses find themselves in a very complex and challenging position. It is very difficult for them to integrate in the global market, and raising the level of their competitiveness, the internationalisation of business operations i.e. creating new quality and efficient competitive strategy is becoming an absolute must. This follows from the information that the export share of small and medium-sized businesses in industrial countries is 30-50%, while Croatian small and medium-sized businesses perform better at home. Strategic linking of small and medium-sized businesses is a model that can help conquer new markets or increase competitiveness. Developed markets have created such models and strategies and they need to be implemented in the transition countries, though in a modified manner to suit the specific local conditions. Their realisation will enable small and medium-sized businesses in Croatia to play a respectable role on regional markets, to improve their competitiveness, and to survive and contribute to the development of the economy of the Republic of Croatia at large
