Sažetak
Testicular seminoma belongs to testicular germ cell tumours (TGCT) which represent 95% of all testicular neoplasia. TGCT affect young male population thereby representing well recognized challenge in the frame of male reproductive health. In routine diagnosis of TGCT, OCT ¾ is used as a biomarker for seminoma and embryonal carcinoma. However, investigating other genes and their specific expression in seminoma could lead to improvement of the seminoma patient management. In this research, we compared expression of c-KIT gene with the expression of OCT ¾ in seminoma tissue to test its potential as a biomarker for testicular seminoma. In this study 52 seminoma tissue were collected, embedded in paraffin and cut to 5 µm slides which were immunohistochemically stained. To visualize OCT ¾ and c-KIT specific antibodies were used. Morphometric analysis for OCT ¾ and c-KIT expression was performed by pathologists. c-KIT and OCT ¾ were expressed in all seminoma tissue. Furthermore, out of 52 tissue samples, in more then 50% of seminoma cells c-KIT was present in 34 patients while OCT ¾ in just 18 samples analysed. We can conclude that c-KIT is a good potential biomarker for seminoma which used aside with already known biomarkers could significantly improve diagnosis of seminoma and seminoma patient management overall.
