Sažetak
The research was conducted with the aim of determining the relation between morphological characteristics and motor abilities of the seventh and eighth grade students of primary school. The sample consisted of 88 seventh and eighth grade male students from the city of Split. Body height (ATV), body weight (ATT) and forearm circumference (AOP) were determined as part of determining morphological characteristics. Motor skills were assessed by tests hand-tapping (MTR), standing long jump (MSDM), backward obstacle course (MPOL), sit- ups (MPT), sit-and-reach (MPR) and hanging endurance (MVIS). The correlation between the two sets of variables was determined using canonical correlation analysis. The findings of the canonical analysis confirmed the statistically significant correlation of morphological and motor space with the value of χ2-square test 56, 226 and the canonical correlation coefficient 0.631. The percentage of variance of morphological variables explained by motor variables was 19, 481%, while the percentage of variance in motor variables explained by values of morphological variables was 11, 535%. By use of canonical analysis, one statistically significant canonical factor was isolated, with a corresponding eigenvalue of 0.398. The isolated canonical factor is primarily determined by high projections of the value of the morphological variable body height (ATV) and motor variable sit-and-reach (MPR). Such findings suggest a correlation between body height and flexibility. The obtained results confirm the connection between the observed anthropological dimensions and provide the basis for planning and programming processes in physical education.
