Sažetak
Central and Southeast European transition countries have embarked upon extensive trade liberalisation, but their transition paths differ greatly. While the trade regimes in CEECs have become transparent and non-discriminatory, trade policies in SEECs could be characterised as a mixture of non-uniformity, discrimination towards different trading partners and a high level of protectionism. Rapid liberalisation in these economies turned out to be premature and detrimental because they were unable to cope with external shocks.
