Sažetak
The procedure of clinical assessment in psychology is determined by numerous factors: starting from paradigm psychologist is expert in, through psychometric measure procedures and psychologist&#8217 ; s personal variable. One of the factors, importance of which has been recognized with Rosenthal&#8217 ; s experiments and antipsychiatry, was low-level possibility of refuting the starting assessment. The author wishes to show some classic cases of such errors, and asserts applicability of Popper&#8217 ; s falsificationism in clinical assessment procedures. Despite improvements in psychometric characteristics of assessment techniques, there was still a problem of falsification. One of key mistakes identified is one of &#8220 ; remission&#8221 ; , i.e. its logical construction that does not allow client to be cured, but only to have his symptoms not present. There is also a problem of patient labeling, and classical examples from antipsychiatry questioning methodology of clinical assessment. Another important issue is etiology of certain disorders. For instance, a client having a paranoid disorder is in such cognitive trap that does not allow him to have any experience that would counter his delusion. Another problems in communication and cognitive analysis are mentioned, such as double-bind technique, attribution theory etc. DSM-IV diagnostic manual has implemented results of these findings in disorder classification and assessment techniques, which has been discussed in paper also.
