Sažetak
C. verticillata 'Zagreb' was created at the Department of Ornamental Plants and Landscape Architecture, Faculty of Agriculture, Zagreb, Croatia. The observation of the cultivar and its growth under climatic conditions in Zagreb was conducted in 1997. During the vegetation period, the maximal height reached by the cultivar C. verticillata 'Zagreb' was 28.7 cm, which makes it lower than that of other cultivars of the species C. verticillata. The maximal diameter reached by the plant was 31.1 cm, which, together with its height, reflects the compact growth of the cultivar C. verticillata 'Zagreb'. The appearance of a larger number of buds was observed twice: 24 days before the appearance of the largest number of inflorescences during the first wave (12 August), and 24 before the second wave (13 September) of flowering. The maximal number of inflorescences was noticed on 13 September. Although pruning was not applied after the first wave, flowering did not end. The inflorescences during the second wave of flowering were less in diameter (35 mm) in comparison to the inflorescences at the beginning of flowering (45 mm). During the vegetation period an average of 126 inflorescences were produced by one plant. The flowering lasted from 14 July-24 October 1997. On average it took 15 days for an inflorescence to reach its full growth. Eight to nine days passed from the inflorescence opening until the falling of ray flowers, and it took 4-5 days from the falling of flowers until the cleansing of inflorescences. Based on the obtained results and observation, compact growth, drought resistance and long period of flowering may be emphasized as cultivar characters.
