Sažetak
Oral health refers to the health of all structures in the oral cavity and not only the teeth, indicating the health status of the entire human body. Since early age, preventing oral infections with cariogenic microflora is the imperative in preserving the oral health , as it would, , together with improper diet, irregular oral hygiene and the lack of early preventive measures (individual and collective), quickly lead to early childhood caries. Good cooperation between paediatric dentists and paediatricians is crucial to get started with early program of prevention and educating parents about the importance of oral health. The first visit to the dentist should be scheduled no later than the 12th month of the child's life. It is a crucial period for the timely education of parents and the start of an early prevention program. From an epidemiological point of view, the high incidence of caries in young children and children from families of lower socio-economic status is still present. Early childhood caries is the most common chronic disease in children, with as much as 5 times the incidence of asthma, in spite of fairly easy prevention.
