Sažetak
The paper overwievs the most frequent floral and faunal species which constitutes the fouling community. The experimental part of the paper comprises a one – year investigation on fouling of the fouling plates (made of glass, PVC, and concrete) submerged in waters of the Kaštela Bay with the purpose of aquiring data on qualitative and quantitative composition of the fouling community. A survey is given of the antifouling coatings development from the technical, economical and ecological aspects. On the example of fouling of the ship “Kairos” in the period between two docking the consequences of corrosion as influenced by the sea environment and the attachment of fouling organisms are given. Further examinations regarding choice of antivegetative coatings as fouling protection means on sea going units made of the glass reinforced polyester resins have been anticipated.
