Sažetak
The Croatian hotel industry is burdened by numerous problems: technical-technological sub-optimality, lack of innovation and entrepreneurial staff, business losses, ownership structure, and lack of capital, managerial expertise and technological know-how, etc. The present operational management of hotel companies in Croatia cannot secure business operations in accordance with normalized global standards and according to the internal efficiency criteria that could create fundamental sector reproduction. This is the result of insufficient operational management know-how in basic business areas (human resources, marketing, hotel technology, controlling). Furthermore, the macroeconomic conditions and present economic policy measures do not function as a support in the tourism sector restructuring process. The purpose of this paper is to highlight the available and applicable ways in which to overcome these weaknesses, and to define the approach to the transition problems in the hotel industry based on new ways of managing hotel companies.
