Sažetak
Microbial community from activated sludge has the ability to withstand and adapt to oscillations within complex environments such as wastewater from pharmaceutical production. Among the most significant strategies for the removal of organic compounds from wastewater is harnessing the metabolic capability of microorganisms present in the wastewater system. Improvement of specific organic compound catabolism can be applied successfully through bioaugmentation. Selected isolates represent microorganisms that are resistant to changing environmental conditions within the pharmaceutical wastewater treatment system. The focus in this study was put on the isolation and identification of predominant microbial cultures from activated sludge and wastewater from the pharmaceutical wastewater treatment plant. Isolation of microbial cultures was done by standard microbial culturing procedures. Microbial isolates were characterized through morphological, physiological, and biochemical analyses. Isolated strains were confirmed by MALDI-TOF MS analysis and 16S rDNA. The pharmaceutical wastewater system is abundant with cultivable microbial strains with a significant amount of bacterial strains. The identified predominant fungi were Fusarium sp., Geotrichum sp., Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Candida lypolitica, while prevalent bacterial strains were Bacillus sp., Alcaligenes sp., Cupriavidus sp., Aeromonas hydrophila, Pseudomonas plecoglosicida. Selected isolates can degrade specific organic compounds from the complex environments such as pharmaceutical wastewater, which leads to the successful application of bioaugmentation.
