Sažetak
Left ventricular function estimated from 2D echocardiography correlates well with measurements from angiography and is useful in establishing prognosis after acute myocardial infarction (AMI). The aim of the study was to assess the clinical utility of the myocardial performance index (MPI) in patients with first AMI treated by primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). We studied 70 consecutive patients (50 men and 20 women), age 34-85 years, who were admitted to the coronary care unit (CCU) of Dubrava University Hospital with first AMI during three months. The MPI may be a useful haemodynamic method to assess global ventricular function in patients with first AMI, and may have a role in clinical practice. Patients with AMI treated by PCI demonstrate better systolic function recovery despite of higher infarct size.
