Sažetak
Measurement invariance enables the evaluation of the validity of the measurement and reveals whether the specific relationship context (e.g., the relationship with romantic partner versus the relationship with parents) affects the measurement of the construct. The aim of this study was to assess the measurement invariance of the Croatian adaptation of the Experiences in Close Relationships Questionnaire (Brennan, Clark, & Shaver, 1985, Croatian version adapted by Kamenov & Jelic, 1998) across three relationship types, i.e., the attachment to romantic partner, mother, and father. The data were provided by 344 adults (71% women) in the age range 18-54 years. Since the participants were asked to assess the same set of items for three attachment figures, we used a modified version of the correlated uniqueness model (Tagliabue & Lanz, 2014) for measurement invariance testing, which allows to take into account the non-independence of the data for different relationships. We followed the standard steps in measurement invariance testing (i.e., configural invariance, factor loadings invariance, intercepts invariance, residual invariance, factor variance invariance, and factor covariance invariance). While the number of factors and the pattern of factor loadings in the three attachment relationships are the same (configural invariance, the overall pattern of the results indicates that the two attachment dimensions (anxiety and avoidance), as assessed with this instrument, are not equally measured across different relationship types in this sample. The implications for the measurement validity and the construct equivalence across different attachment relationships will be discussed.
