Sažetak
Beamforming has significant impact in the next generation of wireless communication systems. It is obtained by antenna arrays. Most techniques for their design primarily consider uniform linear arrays forming pencil beams. For such beamforming, various optimization and analytical methods have been developed. Despite higher efficiency of the optimization algorithms, the analytical methods are preferable since they ensure fast and robust design. Windowing is the most popular analytical method. It utilizes adjustable windows which provide low dynamic range ratio and sidelobe power as well as prescribed sidelobe level and mainlobe width. In this work, the application of window functions in beamforming is described. An overview of standard windows suitable for array design is given. It includes Gaussian, Taylor-Kaiser, Taylor n-bar, and discrete prolate spheroidal windows. Finally, the utilization of windows obtained by polynomial approximation in the design of linear arrays is presented. The features of this approach are illustrated with the design of Dolph-Chebyshev, Gegenbauer, and Pascal arrays and the design of arrays based on Chebyshev derivatives.
