A new protein fraction in human serum and reproductive tissues
Sažetak
A alpha-globulin fraction (molecular mass estimated at 114, 000) that participates the basic protein of the rat seminal vesicle secretion (BP), designated as BP-reactive protein, is identified in human serum. Its relative concentration in serum is age and sex dependent, the highest being in udult men (20-25 and 45-50 years of age). Immunochemically related protein can be shown in human tesicular and epididymal homogenates, and on the unwashed spermatozoa. The connection of the protein with sperm cells represents a weak association which can be easily broken. Incubation of human spermatozoa in rat anti_bp-reactive protein serum leads to their moderate agglutination. The possible function of this protein in human reproduction is discussed.
