Sažetak
The effect of aqueous and ethanol extracts of the above ground parts of the species Solidago virgaurea L. and Solidago gigantea Ait. (Asteraceae) on urine secretion of rats was examined. Solidago species contain large quantities of flavonoids (1.5%) and saponins (2%). Extracts for investigation were prepared as 10% infusion and 2% ethanol extract with an addition of 0.1% Tween 80. For experiments and control tests, three-month-old females of Wistar rats weighing from 170-200 g were used. After oral administration of plant extracts (50 ml/kg), cumulative volumes of urine were measured each half an hour during the five-hour treatment. Electrolites (Na+ and K+) and pH were determined in the urine gathered after five hours. As compared with control, all the extracts greatly stimulated diuresis during the first half of the treatment, working one to three times more strongly. In the second half of the treatment the values for the extracts did not differ significantly from those of the controls. An increased secretion of Na+ and K+ was recorded. The pH values remained unchanged. The best diuretic and saluretic effect was shown by the aqueous extract of the species S. virgaurea.
