Sažetak
This report will introduce the results of an ethnographic case study within the CHIEF project about squatting in Zagreb, based on the example of the BEK social centre. The CHIEF (Cultural Heritage and Identities of Europe´s Future) project is about gaining insight into young people’s learning and engagement with culture and cultural heritage. The BEK social centre was chosen because, by basing their activism on the social and political reasons for squatting, the collective aims to build a local platform for criticising rent increases in Zagreb, organising activities (directed help) for asylum seekers, and providing free meals for those in need. By providing free social, cultural, and artistic activities, they contribute to the independent squatting cultural scene. This ethnographic case study is based on eight months of field work, research diaries, and interviews with 13 respondents.
