Sažetak
Fusarium moniliforme, a producer of fumonisin B1 (FB1), is a common contaminant to corn cultivations in all parts of the world, and it has been associated with several diseases in animals and humans. Since FB1 showed a nephrotoxic effects in different animals, it may bee involved in ethiology of endemic nephropathy (EN) in Croatia (Slavonski Brod). The purpose of our study was to determine distribution and fumonisinotoxinogenicity of F. moniliforme in corn, which was left in fields during winter (N=136), and corn from individual households (N=136) in several parts of Croatia (Karlovac, Sisak, Daruvar, Slavonski Brod, Osijek, Vinkovci). Corn samples were mycologicaly analysed and domination of Fusarium spp. was established in all samples (86% and 56% respectivelly). In Fusarium group, F. moniliforme was present in high percent of occurrence (32.4% and 16.2% respectivelly). Fumonisinotoxinogenicity was examined in biosynthesys on liquid yeast medium (25+10C), and isolation and detection of FB1 were performed by modified multytoxin extraction and TLC tehnique (2). Production of FB1 was determined in 100% F. moniliforme strains i concentration range 181-1320 mg/L. Producer strains were ranged in three groups based on fumonisinotoxinogenicity rate, as high (881-1320 mg/L), intermediate (441-880 mg/L) and low (181-440 mg/L) FB1 producers. Higest number of high and intermediate producers was found in corn samples from eastern part of Croatia (Vinkovci and Slavonski Brod) (23-54% and 5-35% respectivelly). High percent of occurrence of F. moniliforme in corn and high fumonisinotoxinogenicity of strains examined, especially those from endemic nephropathy part of Croatia, point at potential health hazard for animals and humans.
