Sažetak
Selfed progeny recurrent selection for yield improvement was conducted in the M3 maize population developed by crossing 12 Croatian inbred lines. Objective of the study was to evaluate the effect of two selection cycles on improving population performance. The populations per se and populations per se selfed of C0, C1 and C2 were evaluated in three environments using a randomized complete block design with three replications. The average rate of response for grain yield after two cycles of selection was 0, 15 Mg ha-1 cycle-1 (2, 5% cycle-1) in the population per se and 0, 44** Mg ha-1cycle-1 (12, 4% cycle-1) in the population per se selfed. Inbreeding depression for grain yield decreased from 40, 8% for C0 to 31, 7% and 29, 7% for C1 and C2 respectively.
