Sažetak
Increasing share of renewable energy sources (RES), especially wind power plants (WPP) in electricity production makes adjustment of power system required. It must respond to quick changes in RES production whether they are positive or negative. To cover lack of energy in system due to RES production decreasing gas power plants are often used. These plants are source of CO2 emission. Based on available data for WPP monthly output supplied to Croatian power system CO2 emission of potential gas power plant or plants for covering WPP production variability is estimated. Also, aim of this paper is to point the fact that CO2 neutral RES are still strongly dependant on other conventional facilities including those using fossil fuels.
