Sažetak
Polluted urban environment enhances dissolution of patina and underlying bronze material of recent and historical bronze sculptures exposed outdoors. The rate of patina dissolution depends on its composition and morphology as well as on the environment corrosivity. In this work several bronze statues, situated in two Croatian cities, are examined in order to characterize their electrochemical stability and composition of patina. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurements are conducted on several positions on each sculpture in order to relate the variation in exposure to sun and water condensation on electrochemical properties of patinated bronze. By analyzing the obtained impedance spectra, corrosion stability of both patina and underlying bronze is evaluated. The composition of patina is determined by Raman spectroscopy and FTIR measurements. Obtained results on patina composition and its electrochemical properties are discussed with the respect to sculpture location and restoration history.
